As we begin each new year, I am most interested in finding out who my new students are; however, I know that they are curious about me too. This year I am teaching Honors English 12, English 10, and Newspaper Journalism. I also teach the colorguard and advise both GSA and the Spotlight.
I came to Southern Lehigh in 2008 after teaching in the Pocono and suburban Philadelphia areas for many years. Since I began my teaching career, I have taught every grade and level of English from sixth grade through adult education. Beginning with student teaching, and including my early experiences, I taught at a number of schools including Great Valley School District, Allentown Business School, Easton Area School District, Northampton Community College, Pleasant Valley School District, and Kennett High School, prior to coming to SLHS. Since I have been at Southern Lehigh, I have taught English 9, English 10, English 11, English 12, Honors English 12, and Journalism. Since 2011, I have also served as the adviser to the student newspaper, The Spotlight. In 2015, I took on my newest of color guard instructor and have enjoyed working on updating our program here at SLHS. I also advise our student GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) club.
I currently live in the same town where I grew up: Saylorsburg PA. At home, I have a husband and two kids - son Zach (17) and daughter Zoe (14) - whose activities keep me very busy! Zach is a junior at Stroudsburg High School, where he plays trumpet in the concert, jazz and marching bands, and is a member of the Scholastic Scrimmage and Science Olympiad teams. Zoe is a freshman at Stroudsburg Junior High where she plays trumpet in the concert and jazz bands, serves on the student council, and is a member of the Science Olympiad team. She also plays for the Stroudsburg High School junior varsity volleyball team and the Line Shot Volleyball Club. My kids are the third consecutive generation in my family to attend Stroudsburg School District (that's where I went too).
family also includes our cat Pippi, and our dogs Annie and Parker, who we rescued when they were pups. When I am not teaching, I enjoy
spending time with my family and friends, reading all kinds of things, watching Netflix and Hulu, enjoying nature, walking, running, sometimes biking, and traveling when I can. I like to stay active and volunteer much of my weekend time to coaching a nationally competitive independent performance group from West Chester PA, called Field of View Winter Guard.
If you ever want to know anything else, just ask! Best wishes to all for a great school year!
