Calculation of Quarterly and Yearly Grades

  •      Here is an example of how a student's grade is calculated for each quarterly marking period, and for the entire school year.

DA = Daily Assessment     GHW = Graded Homework    B = Bonus

DA  DA  DA  DA  GHW  DA  DA  DA  DA  GHW  DA  DA  DA  GHW  DA
     2     2    1    2     84     0     2    2    1     97     2     1    2    88     2

DA  DA  DA  GHW  DA  DA  DA  GHW  DA  DA  DA  DA  GHW     B   B   B
     2           2   100     1    2    2     76     2           2    2     95       1   0   1

    Daily Assessment Performance (DA): 34/40 = .85 = 85%

    Graded Homework Performance (GHW): 534/600 = .90 = 90%

    Bonus (B):  +2

    (.50)(85) + (.50)(90)
        42.5    +      45
                87.5   (which rounds to 88)
    88  +  2     =   90 (final average for the quarter)
           (bonus)

    60-62 = D-     63-66 = D      67-69 = D+         70-72 = C-     73-76 = C      77-79 = C+
    80-82 = B-     83-86 = B      87-89 = B+         90-92 = A-    93-100 = A       0-59 = F

When calculating a student's overall grade for the year, each quarterly marking period grade accounts for 20%, and each of the exam scores (mid-term and final) accounts for 10% of the final average.

    Example:   Q1           Q2         MT Ex          Q3             Q4          F Ex
                     79           88            80             93             87           85

                (79)(.2) + (88)(.2) + (80)(.1) + (93)(.2) + (87)(.2) + (85)(.1) =

                   15.8   +    17.6   +      8      +   18.6    +   17.4    +   8.5      =  85.9 (rounds to 86 "B")
