Tiers of Instruction
Tier 1: Quality classroom instruction is provided for all students. This includes explicit, systematic delivery of a research based core curriculum, differentiated instruction, normal classroom accommodations, and curriculum based measures and assessments.
Tier 2: Intervention is provided in addition to a student’s regular classroom instruction. This means that a student receives additional, research based intervention in a small group and his or her progress is monitored regularly, typically twice a month.
Tier 3: Intensive intervention is provided on a daily basis that is more explicit and designed to meet individual needs. The student receives additional, research based, intervention that is focused specifically on skills with which the student may be having difficulty. Progress is monitored more frequently, typically weekly.
