Open House Letter
Welcome to Mrs. Lesavoy's Class
Most nights children will not have homework in science and social studies. However, they will have to study for tests, write reports, and do projects during the fifth grade school year. The students will be doing spelling in my classroom, and I plan to introduce the lessons on Mondays and test on Fridays. They will be getting homework in spelling. Please write a note if your child is having difficulty with an assignment or if there is some important reason why they didn't get it done. I do require that the children make up all missed assignments, and I do send homework slips home to be signed by the parent when assignments are missed. Try to keep track of the number of slips you sign. Your child will loose privileges, and you will receive a call from me if your child misses a number of assignments. Agenda books must be signed each night if your child continually forgets to do work or is failing tests.
Report cards are given out four times a year and are available through Sapphire. Be certain to get a Sapphire account. The students will receive A, B, C, D, or F in reading, math, language arts, science, and social studies. The spelling grades will be included in the language arts section of the report cards.
I try to give about three or four days notice for tests, and you can receive email notifications of the tests if you sign up for them. The link is on the first page of my webpage. You can tell when a social studies test is coming by how close we are to the end of a chapter. Tests will be sent home in the homework folder to be signed. Take the time to reinforce their accomplishments and to review the mistakes with your child. We all learn from our mistakes, but we must take the time to think about them. Having you sign the tests is an assignment, and the students will receive a homework slip if they are not returned signed.
I do encourage parents to review test material with their children. However, I do provide an online review for most tests.
Preparation for standardize tests will be on going throughout the year. In March and April we will be giving the students test in reading/writing and math.
We have not yet decided what trips the fifth grade will take. We have gone to the Adventure Aquarium in Camden in the past.
Concerns and Problems
Concerns and problems that may come up throughout the year are best handled by speaking with the teacher first. Please write a note to me, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I generally contact parents after school at around 3:45. You can e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a voice mail by calling (610) 861-4040 ext. 1225.
I look forward to working with you and your child this year.
