PARENT VOLUNTEERS - FIELD TRIP CHAPERONES

PARENT VOLUNTEERS _ FIELD TRIP CHAPERONES

Parent volunteers are vital to the operations and success of our schools and students. Please be aware that the Board of School Directors has outlined policy and the required clearances needed for three types of school volunteers:

  1. Assistive Volunteer: (NO CLEARANCES REQUIRED) Does NOT provide direct service to students but assists in the school under supervision or direction of school staff.  EXAMPLES: copy room, library, homeroom parent who coordinates needs for your classroom, classroom celebration volunteer.
  2. Independent Volunteer: (ALL CLEARANCES REQUIRED: FBI FINGERPRINT, PA STATE POLICE CRIMINAL HISTORY, PA DEPT. OF WELFARE CHILD ABUSE CLEARANCE) This Volunteer provides direct service to students which may be unsupervised. EXAMPLE: volunteer tutor, overnight chaperone.
  3. Field Trip Volunteer: (PA STATE POLICE CRIMINAL HISTORY REQUIRED) This volunteer provides direct service to the students or can reasonably be expected to supervise students on an off-site field trip.
Volunteers who are continuously approved would not need to have their clearances renewed year to year unless there is a break in service. They need to volunteer at least one time per school year in order to be considered in continuous service.

The school offices and the Human Resources department will maintain a file of all volunteers and their clearances.
