Reading and Writing in First Grade
In first grade we use the MacMillan/McGraw-Hill Treasures anthology as the basis of our reading instruction. We begin the year using KidWriting and transition into the 6 Trait model and the writing process for our writing instruction. We are in the process of aligning our instruction to match the Common Core State Standards.
Information on the Common Core State Standards and how to support your child in first grade can be found in Parent Roadmap: Supporting Your Child in Grade 1 English Language Arts.
We know that each child develops and learns differently, so we continually assess and adjust our instruction to best meet the needs of each student.
It is very important to me to build a home-school partnership with you so that we can help your child be successful. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your child's reading development.
