Students do receive homework with their instrumental music class. Their homework is in the form of practice. Practice is essential to studying any instrument and will take your child where he/she wants to be with an instrument. Please take the time to explore the following website for practice tips:
4th grade students are expected to reach 100 minutes between lessons. They are expected to record their practice minutes on a practice record which needs to be signed every week. A copy of the practice record can be found in the "handouts" portion of the website.
5th grade students set their own practice minute goal. This is detailed in the letter that students received at their first lesson.
6th grade students set their own practice minute goal as well, though they have an extra component as part of their practice. We reviewed specific strategies that make practice more effective and beneficial. Your child received a list of these strategies and he or she is expected to incorporate the strategies in their practice at home. Their practice sheets must be signed every week.
Please see the "Related Articles" portion of my website for some additional articles on effective practice.
