Caron Foundation PREP Resources

The Caron Foundation visited our school on Monday, September 16th to share some important information about drug trends. Below is information that was provided at the meeting.

PREP:  Prevention Resources and Education for Parents

Caron’s Student Assistance Program presents PREP, Prevention Resources and Education for Parents, a program designed for parents and caregivers of children in middle school and high school. The program is facilitated by professionals in the field of addiction treatment.

Program Objectives:

  • Provide information on current youth drug trends, such as vaping, and the dangers of use to the developing brain and body
  • Empower parents and caregivers with e ective communication skills when talking with their children about alcohol, tobacco and other drug use
  • Review the importance of establishing clear rules and consequences at home regarding substance use
  • Evaluate resiliency factors that help protect kids from substance use
  • Provide local resources if addiction support is needed

  • Parents are the #1 influence on their children’s lives.
  • Many teens report they want their parents to talk to them about substance use, but many parents are uncomfortable with starting the conversation.
  • Teens consistently identify“disappointing their parents” as a major deterrent of drug use.
