Internet Safety Information and Resources
Dear Southern Lehigh Families,
As many of you may be aware, news and social media outlets have been reporting about potential threats containing upsetting images or descriptions appearing in social media and online video resources aimed at children. One of these is the “Momo Challenge.”
Although no reports have been made that confirm our students have experienced these challenges, we take these types of situations seriously and want to ensure that our families are empowered to have conversations with children. The message that Southern Lehigh School District staff instills with children is that they should never do anything an individual or character tells them to do online without talking to a trusted adult or family member first. We also reinforce that they should always tell a trusted adult or family member when they encounter something on-line that is upsetting or disturbing.
In order to assist you in conversations with your children about online safety in general, we recommend the following resources:
KnowBe4 Children’s Interactive Cybersecurity Activity Kit (Video, Activity Workbooks and Awareness Poster for elementary age students)
NetSmartz Online Safety Tools for Educators, Parents and Kids (Information and Activities for students of any age)
Common Sense Media’s Advice for Parents
For more specific information, see the Momo Challenge Guide for Parents https://nationalonlinesafety.com/resources/platform-guides/momo-online-safety-guide-for-parents/
Thank you for partnering with the Southern Lehigh School District to ensure your children are safe while accessing online resources.
