COVID-19 Community Update March 23, 2020
March 23, 2020
Dear Southern Lehigh Families:
Thank you for your ongoing support during these unprecedented times. The COVID-19 outbreak and actions at the local and state level are continually evolving. We will continue to update our community periodically throughout this situation. At this time we have the following updates to share:
Continued State-Wide Closure of Pennsylvania School Districts Until April 9
On 3/23/2020 at approximately 2:00 pm, PDE announced that all schools in the Commonwealth will remain closed until at least April 6 as a result of COVID-19 response efforts. The closure order could be extended beyond April 6 if necessary to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19. According to the new timeline, school buildings would reopen on April 7 for two days to allow school administrators, teachers and other staff time to prepare classrooms, set up cafeterias, schedule transportation and arrange other business operations. We are aware that Spring Break for students is currently scheduled for April 9, April 10 and April 13. We will be working in conjunction with local districts to determine our official return date, unless extending the closure is needed in response to the situation with the virus at that time.
Extending Education Plans
The Southern Lehigh School District is currently working on a plan for extending education for students. The plan takes into account the information we have available to us at this time, guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and technology needs for students and families. More details will be forthcoming within the next couple of days.
