Winter Recess during cold weather
Please remember that the children go outside for recess daily, weather permitting.
We ask that you make sure your child is dressed properly for outdoor play.
Hats, gloves, scarves and winter coats are necessary.
Children are not allowed to play in the snow. Sneakers or tie shows are the safest form of footware for play purposes.
Below is the real fell temperature chart we use for outdoor recess:
A "real feel" temperature value is used when making decisions for outdoor vs. indoor recess. “Real Feel” Guidelines in Degrees Fahrenheit
15 and above = Full recess (K-3 buildings 30 minutes, 4-6 building 15 minutes) 10 to 14 = 10 - 15 minute recess (teacher discretion).
9 and below = Possible 5 minute brisk walk (teacher discretion).
Other local site factors that may be taken into consideration when determining the appropriateness for outdoor recess include wind gusts (it gets very windy in our play yard), sun, current blacktop and play yard conditions.
We encourage our students to be active outdoors and run, jump and PLAY!
