Animal Science Program

  • Attention Current Juniors Interested in an Animal Science Career:

LCTI's newest offering for rising seniors is an Animal Sciences dual-enrollment program that combines skills-based, interactive and college-level classroom learning with shadowing at Lehigh Valley Zoo and Macungie Animal Hospital. The program allows students the opportunity to explore careers first-hand and prepares students for post-secondary education by offering college science courses.

Students spend half the day at SLHS and the other half of their day at either LCTI, a veterinary setting or LCCC. Students in this program will take "Introduction to Veterinary Technology" and "Fundamentals of Biology" through Lehigh Carbon Community College. This integrated program provides students with hands-on experience while exposing them to the variety of careers in animal sciences and veterinary medicine.

Students in the Animal Sciences program are responsible for their LCCC tuition, textbooks, lab fees, etc. The college offers a tuition discount for program students. Students are also responsible for the purchase of a lab coat to be worn during job shadows, field trips and other off-campus activities. Lastly, students are responsible for providing their own transportation each day to the program.

Minimum requirements for acceptance into the program include a 2.5 GPA, completion of high school Biology and Geometry with a "C" or higher, and an excellent high school attendance record.

Interested students can access the application here.  The online application deadline is January 5, 2024.

In addition to completing the application, it is important for students to:

    • Notify your school counselor if you are planning to apply
    • Ask a current teacher or school counselor to complete the Letter of Reference Form
    • Complete the online transcript release form here
    • Complete page 1 of the Signature form and email to your school counselor

The SLHS Counseling Department will compile your transcript, PSAT/SAT or ACT scores if available, attendance & discipline records, Letter of Reference Form, and  Signature Form and will submit that information directly to LCTI.

Please feel free to reach out to your school counselor if you have any questions.
