    HW Cares Text

Hopewell CARES is a school wide positive behavior program designed to encourage respect and community building among the student population.  Our philosophy is based on two simple rules:  BE NICE!  BE SAFE!

In addition to BE NICE! BE SAFE! our school has taken on the attitude of being “bucket fillers!”  Every class had the opportunity to hear the story Have You Filled a Bucket Today?  by Carol McCloud.  Visit the Bucket Fillers Website to learn more and ask your child what it means to be a Bucket Filler!

Each grade level has a list of expectations of what BE NICE!  BE SAFE! looks like.  Each grade level’s expectations build off of the previous grade level’s behavioral benchmarks.  Some expectations may be similar, and some may worded differently.  This is because the expectations may be developed more as the grade levels change, thus changing the language of the rule.

Every classroom earns points for compliments earned in their classroom or common areas of the school for displaying CARES behavior.  For each compliment earned a point is earned.  For every 20 points earned within classrooms, students are rewards with a little something special!  Rewards may vary from class to class but include such things as extra recess time, a pajama day, extra computer time and more!

Classroom points will be collected and combined each month to be displayed in the lobby.  This represents how we are doing as an entire community with BE NICE! BE SAFE!  Our goal as a school and community is to reach the top of the meter by the end of each marking period.  We will then have CARES celebration as a school at that time (4 school wide celebrations).
