Mrs. Kathleen T. Evison

Kathleen Evison serves as the Superintendent of the Southern Lehigh School District since 2016.  She brings extensive administrative experience to her role as Superintendent, having served as a central office and building administrator, IU administrator, and a teacher of general and special education.  She came to Southern Lehigh from Reading School District where she served as Chief Student Services Officer.  Prior to that she was an administrator with the Berks County Intermediate Unit for eight years, leading programs providing services to more than 5,000 students and families.  

Mrs. Evison has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Chester, U.K, and a graduate degree in Secondary Education, along with secondary teaching certificate from University of Lancaster, U.K.  She also earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from St. Josephs University, PA and a Letter of Eligibility for Superintendent at Edinboro University. In addition to her Letter of Eligibility for Superintendent, Mrs. Evison is certified in the Commonwealth as a Principal, a Supervisor of Special Education, and a Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction.

Michael is the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning in the Southern Lehigh School District. Prior to this role, he served as Vice President of Professional Services for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Director of Professional Development for Discovery Education.  In both of those positions, Michael collaborated with schools and districts across the nation on the design, implementation and assessment of professional learning intended to support teachers and leaders with programs to further student success and digital transformations.   Michael also proudly served as the Superintendent of the Salisbury Township School District and as a Teacher, Middle School Principal, Director of Curriculum, and Assistant Superintendent in the Nazareth Area School District. Michael received a BA in History with a minor in Management from Moravian College, along with his Secondary Social Studies Certification.   After earning an MS and principal certification from Wilkes University, he pursued his Pennsylvania Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Lehigh University. Michael earned his Ed.D. in Educational and Organizational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. He is an adjunct professor for the Moravian College and Delaware Valley University Graduate Education Programs and is a founding instructor in the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 Superintendent Preparation program.

Mr. Ken Jordan

Ken is the Director of Technology, Data and Assessment for the Southern Lehigh School District. He holds an undergraduate degree from Misericordia University, where he majored in Elementary Education.  Mr. Jordan also graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education at Misericorida University with a focus on Educational Techology and Curriculum and Instruction. Currently in his twenty-first year in education, Mr. Jordan began his educaiton career as the Director of Distance Education at Misericordia Univeristy where he also was an adjunct instructor.  He left Misericordia to begin his career in Public Education and taught elementary grades 2-5 for ten years.  In 2008 Mr. Jordan moved into an administrative position and has served in a variety of roles since that time.  Mr. Jordan is also an adjunct professor for Wilkes University.

Shane is the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Southern Lehigh School District. He holds an undergraduate degree from King’s College, where he majored in Computers and Information Systems. He then went on to earn a Certificate in Elementary Education through East Stroudsburg University’s post-graduate studies. Mr. Cross also graduated with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership at Arcadia University where he earned his Pennsylvania Principal’s Certification. Currently in his fourteenth year in education, Mr. Cross has worked with students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 in public schools throughout southeastern Pennsylvania. Over the course of his career, he has served as a classroom teacher, computer teacher, technology integration specialist, and central office administrator.

Mrs. Andria Deatline Buchman

Andria is the Director of Special Education and Students Services for the Southern Lehigh School District and is in her fifteenth year in public education. She holds an undergraduate degree in History from Ursinus College. During her senior year, Mrs. Buchman received a scholarship to attend a prestigious half semester internship program at American University in Washington, D.C. where her passion for supporting students began. After graduation, she worked in various agencies that support children and adults with disabilities while pursuing her Master’s Degree in Special Education at Lehigh University. While attending Lehigh University, Mrs. Buchman contributed to and conducted research that has been published in special education journals. Post receiving her Masters Degree, Mrs. Buchman has been a special education teacher, an intervention specialist, a special education supervisor, and the Director of Special Education in the Easton Area School District. Currently, she is celebrating her sixth year in the district. More recently, Mrs. Buchman has completed her Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from California University of Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Beth Guarriello

Mrs. Guarriello has been a proud educator in some form for the last 29 years. She comes from a family of educators, both her parents were teachers and administrators, and she is a graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education teaching chemistry and biology. She has 2 Masters degrees from Wilkes University in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership. Mrs. Guarriello has taught all levels of biology, chemistry and a variety of electives at many high schools including Council Rock HS, Boiling Springs HS, Parkland HS and Liberty HS where she spent most of her teaching career. While teaching Honors and AP Chemistry, Mrs. Guarriello was awarded the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Inspirational Teaching Award (March 2014) and the American Chemical Society Outstanding Teacher Award (June 2012) in addition to Anthony Ruggerio Outstanding High School Teacher of the Year Award for the Bethlehem Area School District (2011).

 While at Liberty High School Mrs. Guarriello was also the science department chair and then she was given the opportunity to move into administration assuming the role of Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction. Through that role, both at the high school level and central office level, Mrs. Guarriello was able to lead a team of teachers to focus on the needs of freshmen and together they created a school within a school to help improve students’ transition from middle school to high school. The LHS Freshman Center won the IU 20 Excellence in Education Award (May 2014) for the positive impact the improvements made in the academics, learning environment and adjustment to high school for its students.

 After leaving Liberty High School, Mrs. Guarriello moved to Southern Lehigh High School as the 9/10 Assistant Principal. After 3 years at Southern Lehigh High School, Mrs. Guarriello moved to Saucon Valley High School in order to take on the role of principal. While principal this past year, Mrs. Guarriello and her team were awarded the Colonial IU Award for Excellence in Education (April 2018) for their work on school climate and culture which focused on inclusion and acceptance between diverse groups of students.

Tom is the Assistant Principal for Grades 11 & 12 at Southern Lehigh High School. Prior to this role, he served as a Gifted Education Coordinator and Social Studies Teacher at Southern Lehigh. Previously, Tom was a Social Studies Teacher at both Wilson Area High School in Easton and Freedom High School in Bethlehem. In addition to teaching, Tom valued his time as a coach, holding positions as a Football Coach at Freedom High School and as a Softball Coach at Wilson Area High School. Tom received a BA in History with a minor in Political Science from Moravian College, along with his Secondary Social Studies Certification. Mr. Ruhf also earned an M.Ed in Curriculium and Instruction and a Pennsylvania Principal Certification from Moravian College.

Ms. Jennifer Brinson

Jennifer is one of the Assistant Principals at Southern Lehigh High School. She is responsible for the 9th and 10th grades. Prior to this role, she served as the Interim Assistant Principal, Social Studies and Gifted Teacher at Salisbury High School for 21 years. Jennifer earned a B.S. and a B.A. in political science and history from the University of Scranton. She then earned her Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a M.S. from Wilkes University in Educational with an Instructional Media concentration. She also earned her principal’s certificate from Wilkes University in 2015. Jennifer was named the 2016 “Outstanding Teacher of the Year” by the PA Assoc. for Educators of Communications and Technology (PAECT). She serves as the Associate Director of the Keystone Technology Innovators’ Summit and chair of the Leadership Development Committee for PAECT.

Dr. Edward Donahue

Dr. Donahue received his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Charles College in Philadelphia followed by graduate studies at Lehigh University, in Bethlehem, PA. He was 22 years a high-school classroom teacher, most of which was in the Allentown area. In 2001, he accepted a position as a Professor of Education at Cedar Crest College, thereby leaving the Allentown School District. In 2003, he became the Chair of the Education Department of Cedar Crest College. In 2004, having achieved the intended goal of establishing a Master’s of Education program at Cedar Crest College, Dr. Donahue left Cedar Crest and returned to Public Education. In April 2004, he became Assistant Principal of Southern Lehigh High School, a position he retained until 2007. In 2007, Dr. Donahue became Principal of Southern Lehigh Middle School.

Jack is the Assistant Principal of the Southern Lehigh Middle School. His educational experiences consist of a Bachelors degree from Kutztown University in the area of Secondary Mathematics, a Masters degree from DeSales University focusing on “Technology for Educators”, and an administrative certification from the California University of Pennsylvania. Jack has 18 years teaching experience in secondary education consisting of all secondary levels including alternative education through gifted courses in mathematics concentrating in grades 9-12. Additionally, he has had the honor of working with teachers in the capacity of a PLC facilitator focusing on best teaching practices and data analysis. His administrative career started at Louis E. Dieruff High School where he performed the duties of Dean of Students over a three-year period. Furthermore, he was previously a Cross-Country and Soccer coach over a ten-year period allowing him the opportunity to work with the school, students, and community in a distinctive capacity.

Sean is the Acting Principal of Joseph P. Liberati Intermediate School. Preiously he has severed as Assistant Principal since the opening of the Intermediate School in 2009. Before joining Southern Lehigh School District, Sean worked as a Chemistry and Physical Science teacher at Bucks County Technical High School, and in The School District of Lancaster. Sean’s undergraduate work was as a dual major at Albright College where he earned his first degree in Chemistry and Education. His first graduate work was done at the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a masters degree in Chemistry Education. Sean then attended Wilkes University earning a Masters in Education and K-12 Principal’s Certificate.

Lori is Principal of Hopewell Elementary School for the Southern Lehigh School District. She received her undergraduate degree from Penn State University, College of Human Development. Lori completed her Master’s Degree in Education at Kutztown University and received a teaching and education specialist certificate with a focus in Elementary School Counseling. She obtained her Elementary Principal certificate through Penn State University. During her career in education Lori has served as Supervisor of Elementary Education at KidsPeace, Principal at Evans Falls Elementary and Principal at Mill City Elementary before joining Southern Lehigh School District in 2006.

Samuel is the Principal at Liberty Bell Elementary School in the Southern Lehigh District.  He holds an undergraduate degree from Millersville University, where he majored in Elementary Education and a minor in Athletic Coaching.  Mr. Hafner also holds a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University.  Currently in his nineteenth year in public education, Mr. Hafner began his career teaching 3rd Grade out in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the Clark County School District.  Since then, he has also taught 4th grade, 6th grade, middle school social studies, and middle school language arts.  In 2007, Mr. Hafner left the classroom and became an assistant principal at Salisbury Township Middle School.  Little more than a year later, he returned to Southern Lehigh to become the principal at Liberty Bell Elementary where he has been the past 10 years.  Mr. Hafner believes in making the day count, for you are not getting it back!

Dr. Jeremy Melber

Dr. Jeremy G. Melber, DBA serves as the district’s Director of Business Services. Dr. Melber has been with Southern Lehigh since 2011. Prior to joining Southern Lehigh, he served as the Business Administrator at Northern Lehigh School District. Dr. Melber holds a Bachelor degree in finance from Penn State University, his Master of Business Administration from Kutztown University, and his Doctorate in Business Administration from Northcentral University. Prior to his career in education Dr. Melber was a financial broker with a firm in Harrisburg before starting his own brokerage firm for seven years, eventually selling to a Massachusetts based firm. Outside of the office Dr. Melber is an avid college football and baseball fan, cheering on Penn State and the NY Yankees. He is also a private helicopter pilot, and enjoys donating time to numerous non-profit organizations throughout the Lehigh Valley.

Mary is the Acting Director of Human Resources.  She formerly served as the Principal at Joseph P. Liberati Intermediate School and at Lower Milford Elementary School. Prior to her work in Southern Lehigh, Mary worked as the Assistant Superintendent in the Governor Mifflin School District in Berks County, PA. She also worked as a Principal and Secondary Guidance Counselor in the Wilson Area School District serving at Wilson Borough Elementary School, Avona Elementary School, Philip Lauer Middle School and Wilson Area High School. Currently in her twenty-fifth year as an educator, Mrs. Farris has worked with students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. Before working in education, Mrs. Farris was a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Vocational Specialist and Disability Expert and worked for Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital and the Social Security Disability Administration. Mary received her BS in Rehabilitation Education and M.ED in Counselor Education along with her Secondary Counselor Educational Specialist Certification from The Pennsylvania State University. After earning her Principal Certification from East Stroudsburg University, she aquired her Pennsylvania Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Lehigh University.

Todd is the Director of Support Services for the Southern Lehigh School District.  He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh, where he majored in Business Economics.  Prior to joining the district, Todd served more than 10 years as Director of Corporate Services for HA Berkheimer, Inc., and 10 years as Business Manager in the construction and transportation industries.  Mr. Bergey joined Southern Lehigh School District in 2005 overseeing the district’s busing and facility operations.

Susan is the Coordinator of Support Services for Southern Lehigh School District.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Kutztown University, where she majored in Early Childhood/Elementary Education.  Mrs. Knoll also has an Information Systems Certificate from Cedar Crest College.  She began her career at Southern Lehigh in November of 2004 in the Support Services Department, being a part of transportation, custodial services, and various construction projects.

Marc is the incoming Director of Athletics for the Southern Lehigh School District.  Prior to joining Southern Lehigh, Marc served as the Assistant Athletic Director in the East Penn School District for 2 years.  He spent the first 12 years of his professional career as an elementary and middle school teacher in the Bethlehem Area School District at William Penn Elementary School, Governor Wolf Elementary School, and Broughal Middle School.  During that time, Marc served as the Head Track and Field Coach at Freedom High School for 2 years.  Overall, he has coached football and track and field at the high school level for 16 years at several schools throughout the Lehigh Valley including Freedom High School, Bethlehem Catholic High School, and Emmaus High School.  He was fortunate to be a part of several East Penn Conference and District XI Championships.  Marc received his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership along with his Principal’s Certification from Wilkes University in 2014.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Elementary Education from Moravian College in 2003 where he also played college football.

Erik is the Coordinator of Network & Information Systems for the Southern Lehigh School District.  He holds an associates degree in Computer & Information Systems from Berks Technical Institute .  He continues to hold certifications for Cisco, Brocade, Shoretel, Microsoft and Apple.  Currently in his 14th year in education, Erik began his career at Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit as their Network Engineer.  After two years at CLIU he became the IT Manager and helped the Information Technology Department manage a high-speed broadband fiber optic network that connects CLIU to all fourteen public school districts in Carbon and Lehigh counties and two Vocational-Technical Schools. CLIU connects to other Intermediate Units in the state and to the State System of Higher Education. The network provided educational content, software support, Internet, security, filtering, and data storage services to the districts.  In 2013 after a few years of consulting with Southern Lehigh he was brought in as the Coordinator of Network & Information Systems to help lead the district to become a National Template for 1-1 schools.

Diana is the Coordinator of Community Engagement and School Board Secretary for the Southern Lehigh School District.   She began her career at Southern Lehigh in the Administration offices in 2002. She was appointed as Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent in 2004 and has served as Board Secretary since 2011.

In her capacity as Coordinator of Community Engagment, Diana works to develop partnerships with community organizations.  She serves on the Safety, Act 48 committee; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Panel and is a PAEOP executive board officer. Actively involved in the Southern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce Diana has been a board member since 2014.

Michelle is the Coordinator of Data & Reporting for the Southern Lehigh School District. She began her career at Southern Lehigh in the Technology department as a Tech Facilitator for Hopewell Elementary in 2013. After a brief departure, she returned to SLSD as PIMS & Data Specialist and was appointed Coordinator of Data & Reporting in 2018. While she holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Graphic Design her ongoing interest in education lead her to SLSD. Michelle is committed to submitting clean error-free data. Having spent the last few years learning the ins and outs to state reporting and is currently most passionate about the work she is doing to help spread that knowledge to others within the district.

Greg is the Coordinator of Food Services for the Southern Lehigh School District. He has over 30 years of experience within the Food Service Industry. Prior to becoming a member of the SLSD family in 2011 he spent 13 years at Walt Disney World, working multiple positions within the Culinary Department with his final position being Sous Chef at ESPN Zone; 7 years with Sodexo as an Executive Chef, Operations Manager, and General Manager, 4 of those years were spent at Bethlehem Area School District as the Executive Chef and Operations Manager of Dining Services; 2 years at Blue Mountain School District as Director of Support Services, concurrently directing the Food Services, Transportation, and Child Accounting departments.

Wendy is the Accountant for the Southern Lehigh School District. She brings over 15 years of accounting experience to the position. She holds a Bachelor's degree from Bloomsburg University, where she majored in Accounting. She began her career as an auditor for the public accounting firm, Arthur Andersen LLP. She also earned the Certified Public Accountant designation. Prior to joining SLSD, Wendy served as the Controller for Omega Homes Inc.

Ms. Deneen Carreras

Deneen is the Coordinator of Benefits and Payroll for Southern Lehigh School District. She brings over 20 years administrative, payroll and benefits experience. She received her FPC certification in payroll. Deneen works closely with employees to administer the benefits programs, FMLA, PSERS, and long term disability. She also implemented and manages the Time Clock Plus time entry system for payroll processing.
