I graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Mathematics. I continued my education at Widener University, earning a Master's Degree in Education, specializing in Reading.
My first few years teaching were in parochial and private schools. I started substitute teaching in public schools in my home community and then contracted to teach in the Philadelphia School District. After 4 years teaching in Philadelphia, I decided to move to the Lehigh Valley, having accepted the position of seventh grade mathematics teacher with Southern Lehigh School District. After ten years at the Middle School, due to the ever changing needs of the district, I joined the sixth grade team of teachers at the Intermediate School as a Reading/Language Arts teacher for the 2009-2010 school year. For the 2010-2011 school year, I also taught 6th grade Math. Most recently I have taken on the position of Title 1 Math/Reading Teacher.
I have earned credits from courses taken with Wilkes University and Indiana Wesleyn University, since joining the Southern Lehigh Family. This past summer (2013) I had the opportunity to participate in a two-day workshop at our IU, on the "PA Common Core in Mathematics" for teachers of grades 6-8. As you can see, Education continues to be an important part of my life, not just my area of employment.
My husband, Andy and I have two wonderful children at home with us. Our daughter Rileigh is 4 and started school this year, and our son Gavin is two. When I have some free time, I enjoy spending time with extended family, reading, and shopping. We always look forward to our annual August trip to the beach. It's hard to believe that a whole year has passed since moving into our new home last October! Next spring we will be traveling to Walt Disney World in honor of Rileigh's 5th birthday! She can't wait to meet all the princesses, especially Cinderella.
