Comprehensive Planning for 2019-2022

    Comprehensive Planning for 2019-2022

The Southern Lehigh School District will be entering into its comprehensive planning process during the 2017-2018 school year.  Over the course of the year, committees will participate in activities that will highlight successes, identify challenges, and research opportunities associated with focus topics.  The work of each committee will result in a subset of goals and preliminary action plans that will become a part of Southern Lehigh’s comprehensive plan to commence July 1, 2019.

A school district’s comprehensive plan serves multiple purposes.  In addition to satisfying the planning requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Education, it provides direction for the work of school district personnel over the course of three years.  The plan frames priorities and focuses on transforming the experiences of students, staff, parents and the community while focusing on student success.

Successful comprehensive plans are developed with the input and involvement of various stakeholders. The Southern Lehigh School District is looking for parents and members of the community to participate in the process by becoming involved in the following committees:

    (Meets December 2017-February 2018)

This committee will develop the vision, mission and values that represent the core functions of the Southern Lehigh School District and how these translate into what we want the Southern Lehigh School District to look like in 2022.

    Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment

    (Meets January 2018-May 2018)

This committee will investigate the ways our students have demonstrated success, areas in which we could improve the learning experiences of students, and how we continually measure our effectiveness in supporting students in academics, athletics, arts, and gifted education.

    Safe and Supportive Schools

    (Meets January 2018-May 2018)

This committee will look at the ways to support the emotional and social growth of students in culturally competent and developmentally appropriate environments to enhance learning, along with the types of services and resources to be leveraged to support students and families.

    Special Education

    (Meets December 2017-April 2018)

This committee will analyze the ways in which the district should plan for the growth of struggling learners and how to translate special education mandates into practices that continually support our students and families.

    (Meets January 2018-May 2018)

This committee will look at how our fiscal and physical resources can continually be leveraged to support students, staff and the community and what challenges and successes we have and will experience in these areas.

    Professional Education

    (Meets January 2018-May 2018)

This committee will identify what learning opportunities should look like for our entire staff and what types of professional development will be needed to ensure success for our students.

Committees will have regular face-to-face meetings along with facilitated collaboration through an online Learning Management System.  Members will be asked to be active listeners and contributors, engage in activities associated with each committee, read and review research and/or informational articles, and think strategically and long-term.

If you are interested in participating in any of these committees, please complete the volunteer form found by clicking here by FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2017.

    Thank you for your support!

    Ms. Kathleen T. Evison
